Sōhn Review: Matcha and High Ceilings in Dogpatch

The receipt says “Table 24, Amy,” which turned out to be up on Sōhn’s mezzanine: matcha in hand, paper lanterns at eye level, two stories of morning light doing most of the talking.
Sōhn is a Korean American all-day cafe in Dogpatch with a really solid matcha and one of the tallest, best-looking rooms in San Francisco — and you get seated here, restaurant-style, instead of hovering for a table. It’s from chef Deuki Hong and Janet Lee, it opened in fall 2025 in the old creamery building at 2535 3rd St, and the shelves stock goods from around 30 Korean makers, which is a dangerous thing to walk past on your way out.
What to Order at Sōhn
My order, straight off the receipt: the Signature Cream Top matcha (iced only, per the menu — the cream top is the point) with almond milk, plus a chocolate croissant. Alt milks ride free here, and my receipt lists the almond at a very agreeable $0.00. Damage: $15.38 for one.
The matcha itself is really solid — and if you’re feeling thematic, there’s a Melona matcha latte on the menu, a honeydew nod to the Korean freezer-aisle classic.
Come to Catch Up, Not to Camp Out
Here’s the thing to know before you bring a laptop: tables at Sōhn are not first come, first served. You wait at the door, you get seated, and the whole rhythm feels closer to brunch than to a coffee shop. For meeting a friend, that’s the good news — the room is social by design, and it does half the conversation for you.
For co-working? Not really the move. I love it anyway. I just love it with company.
The Verdict on Sōhn
- Best for: Matcha catch-ups under very tall ceilings · Dogpatch mornings
- My order: Signature Cream Top matcha with almond milk + a chocolate croissant
- Damage: $15.38 for one
- Know before you go: Seating is hosted (you get walked to a table), it’s closed Mondays, and the kitchen wraps by mid-afternoon
- Where: 2535 3rd St, Dogpatch (Google Maps) · sohnsf.com
For the high-ceilinged matcha room where laptops are welcome, Jandii on Taraval is the counterpart — and Sōhn now holds down the sit-down end of my best matcha in San Francisco ranking.
