Maruwu Seicha Review: The Strawberry Matcha With Hokkaido Milk

Strawberries dusted with matcha powder, like the strawberry matcha at Maruwu Seicha in San Francisco Japantown

Tucked into the Japan Center mall in Japantown, Maruwu Seicha is where I go when I want a matcha latte that still feels like a small ceremony.

The order is the strawberry matcha with Hokkaido milk, and it’s one of the best matcha drinks in San Francisco: real matcha doing real work underneath, strawberry sweetness on top, and that milk — whole Hokkaido milk — carrying the whole thing like velvet.

A Note on the Hokkaido Milk, From the Longevity Files

Here’s the personal-data part: I have to be careful with dairy. Too much of it and my body files a formal complaint (the full saga is in my remission essay). Maruwu Seicha’s Hokkaido milk has never once irritated me.

I won’t pretend to know the why. After years of tracking exactly this kind of thing, I just trust the pattern — and I order accordingly.

The Verdict on Maruwu Seicha

  • Best for: Matcha lattes that respect the matcha; Japantown treat runs
  • My order: Strawberry matcha with Hokkaido milk
  • Where: 1737 Post St #368, Japan Center (Google Maps) · maruwuseicha.us

Maruwu Seicha is #2 on my best matcha in San Francisco ranking — right behind Constance’s fresh-milled koicha, and ahead of everything sweeter.
