Super Duper Burgers Review: The Lettuce-Wrap Veggie Burger Hack

A burger and fries at a San Francisco restaurant like Super Duper Burgers

Super Duper Burgers gets filed under “Bay Area burger chain” and forgotten there, which is exactly the kind of injustice this blog exists to correct.

Super Duper is the best fast casual burger situation in San Francisco because the ingredient quality runs a full tier above what the price tag suggests — my whole rubric for fast casual, passed with room to spare.

My Super Duper Order: the Lettuce-Wrap Veggie Burger

Here’s the menu engineering: the veggie burger, bun swapped for a lettuce wrap, with their hummus dressing. On paper that sounds like the compromise order, the thing you get while staring wistfully at someone else’s cheeseburger.

It isn’t. The lettuce-wrap veggie burger with hummus is genuinely my preferred configuration — fresher, lighter, and the hummus does more work than any special sauce. I mostly eat plant-based and gluten-free these days, and this order requires zero martyrdom.

Then, because balance is a lifestyle: the fries with cheese. They are decadent. They are not part of the longevity experiment. They are part of the joy experiment, and both experiments matter.

The Verdict on Super Duper Burgers

  • Best for: A healthyish burger that doesn’t feel like a consolation prize
  • My order: Veggie burger, lettuce-wrapped, hummus dressing — plus cheese fries when the week earned it
  • Where: Locations all over SF (Google Maps) · superduperburgers.com

Super Duper made both my best fast casual in San Francisco list and the best restaurants in SF. For the fried-chicken-and-tofu chapter of the same food group, here’s my Proposition Chicken review.
